The Negotiating Process

Small house sitting on top of stack of money

Buying or selling a house has many steps within the process, including the negotiating process. For both the buyer and the seller, negotiating starts with an offer which comes from a potential buyer, to the seller. As a seller, your real estate agent will help you decide how to respond to the offer in a way that has your best interest in mind. As a buyer, your agent can help you come up with an offer and proposal that is most likely to yield the best results.

After the initial offer, if accepted, appraisals and inspections will begin to take place. The home will need to be inspected to be sure that the buyer is making the right decision, that he/she will be paying for a home that is worth the price. This will protect the buyer in the event that an issue is discovered, such as a problem with the home’s title or repairs that may need to be made that are discovered during the inspection.

Negotiate, Then Re-negotiate!

After the negotiating process is underway and inspections have been made, it is time to re-evaluate the situation and renegotiate. Has the inspector found a problem with the home’s insulation? Or, if you’re the seller, was an appraisal done that shows that the home is worth more than you initially thought? Whether you are the buyer or the seller, your agent will take the reins and help you renegotiate and come out with a win-win solution for all involved.
